I’ll put my hands up. I love Instagram. Call me basic all you want, it won’t phase me. So with that in mind, I thought I’d share with you all my top 10 Instagram accounts (in no particular order). Fair warning, a lot of them are comics and animals, but what’s wrong with that?
(P.S) This is definitely not an exhaustive list.
These comics are one of the few things that consistently make me laugh out loud. Not only is the style adorable and bold, but the content is so hilarious I can barely cope.
The account is run by someone who plays pretty much every instrument under the sun. While this is a lot of the appeal, there is an added bonus in the form of Maple. In fact, Maple sometimes joins in the music. Follow for soothing instrumental tunes and the most beautiful and talented dog I have ever laid my eyes on.
This is definitely one of the stranger accounts I follow, but it is also one of my firm favourites. Meet MacGyver, an Argentine Red Tegu Lizard. The photos on this Instagram warm the cockles of my heart. From videos of him and his owner cuddling, to photos of him in ridiculous scenarios, this account shows that lizards can be just as cute and loveable as their furry friend counterparts.
Here’s one for you philosophers. Texts from your existentialist is one of the most original formats I’ve seen on Instagram. They put text bubbles containing deep and meaningful text on top of photos, often classical art. The juxtaposition between the two makes for a thought provoking and often hilarious account.
Another unusual animal Instagram account. This time Juniper, a domestic rescue fox. Juniper is so adorable and happy, and there is the added bonus that every photo is such high quality and has gorgeous composure. Juniper lives with a number of other animals, including cats, dogs and gliders, so often will be in photos with them.
This is one of the most relatable Instagram accounts I follow. The comic style is adorable, and are all about introversion and the things that come with it. This account is definitely not just for introverts though, and I definitely think many people will be able to relate to these comics.
Izy has her fingers in many pies (ironically). She’s a chef, a food stylist, a photographer and an author. At age 21 she already has 2 cook books out-pretty impressive. Word of warning-don’t look at this account while hungry. The photos are mouthwatering and beautiful, and the recipes healthy and delicious.
I couldn’t really do a list of favourite Instagram’s without putting in a meme page. Cardinal Memes makes memes often specific youth culture and being a teenager in London. They are quirky, thought provoking and funny. I challenge you to not to find something relatable on this account.
You’re probably living under a rock if you’ve never heard of rupi kaur or seen one of her poems; she’s become pretty much a social media phenomenon. But I would urge you to follow her Instagram. She posts poems with her distinct line drawings, gorgeous pictures of herself and videos of her reading her poems. It’s a lovely little collection.
These aesthetically pleasing little illustrations by Mari Andrew fill me with joy every time I see one on my feed. The content varies and covers loads of different topics, and the style is colourful and quirky. The comics are often sad, but are always relatable in some way.
